THIS WAS SO BEAUTIFUL OMG (I've already said this, but I'll say it again LOL)

Where to start? To me, this whole fic is drenched in a lovely sort of hazy, golden sort of light - it sounds strange but the way you describe everything on the island, particularly with regard to how the days are always perfect, and knowing what is going on 'behind the scenes' so to speak, makes me think of those fuzzy sort of camera shots that you see in films or in TV when they're trying to show how perfect a place is, which fits in so wonderfully with the poem that you've used as inspiration. But as we know, these sorts of perfect moments don't last very long, or if they do, they come with a price, so the fic is tinged with a heartbreakingly bittersweet sort of flavour. Gaaaah I dunno, I feel like I could keep analysing parts of this fic for quite a long time because it's so beautiful and multi-layered.

Right from the start, you sense that something isn't quite right with where Kyu's found himself. The perfect beach, the mansion with everything he wants inside it, his contentment with his situation, and his belief that his stay is only temporary, all hint that everything is too good to be true. And then of course you've got that wonderful opening to the story, where Kyu is in the water and he can hear his name being called, but chooses to (literally) go with the flow instead. So we've already been told that there is more than meets the eye when the story picks up and Kyu's discovering all these little things on the beach.

I love Jongwoon's role as psychopomp here, too (LMAO!) Their initial meeting, when he realises that Kyuhyun can see him (I do like the slight change in the dialogue), is so perfectly poignant. Sigh. I like the way he's less assertive, letting Kyu make all his own decisions too. That's such a lovely touch, the way that Kyu draws closer to him of his own volition, but also sad at the same time, because there's only two (very sad) ways it can end, even though (I think) Kyu makes the better decision eventually. I especially liked the whole 'sunset/midday guy' conversation, since it shows the way their relationship is progressing in such a subtle way. Also, the whole idea that Kyu is holding himself back, trying to wait a little longer so that he can have 'everything' is so melancholic, since you sense exactly what will happen if he does wait that little bit longer.

The big reveal at the end ties all the threads of what you've been hinting at since the beginning together and, while it is sad that Kyu decides to leave behind his 'real' life, it feels right because Jongwoon's becoming more and more 'real' to him than the real world with every moment they spend together (I just noticed that the first time they properly touched is when Jongwoon has to catch Kyu when he's too shocked after being confronted with the reality that he is actually in a coma OMG SO SIGNIFICANT!). I just - the ending of the fic really does deal a knock-out blow to my emotions because the reader kind of knows what's going to come, that the perfect fantasy can't be real. And usually you expect Kyu to wake up and choose to go on living in the real world, but Kyu's decision to go back to Jongwoon, is actually painful because you know what's he's giving up, but also what he's finally accepting.

I could go on (sorry for all the word vomit BTW), but I think I've squeed enough at you already about how wonderful this fic is XD Thanks for giving us such a masterpiece ♥♥♥
